Cam’s Story

“at age 19, I was in rehab for a broken back, and was an anxious, angry teenager. I struggled to see much light in my life. The medical profession didn’t offer me any help in finding a solution, and my family was suffering with their own mental health issues.

So I Googled “how to be happy...”

“After an emotional meltdown at work, I went to my local doctor and confessed how much I was struggling mentally with life, his answer was short - “take these BETA Blockers, they’ll calm you down”.

With a family history of Mental Illness and personally seeing the negative side effects of prescription pills numb the ones I love most, I vowed from a young age to never touch them! So I took it upon myself to find another avenue to deal with my problems. I did what any modern day teenager would do and googled “how to be happy”….. the results took me to many different sites and blogs until I came across an article named “Top 10 thing to do to be happier in 2014.”

It had the classics - drink more water, exercise regularly, eat your greens, hang out with friends… and then number 8 - Meditate.

“Meditation? Isn’t that for monks and Buddha with the fat belly?” I said to myself.

What did I have to lose. Smoking weed, drinking alcohol and suppressing my emotions wasn’t working so I found myself a Meditation Beginners Class on the other side of town.

I didn’t tell anyone I was going, I parked close to the building and sat at the back corner of the class - ready for a stealthy exit if it got weird. When the teacher came out, a young lady with a bald head and orange robes, I was ready to make a runner but I couldn’t make my exit without making a scene so I stayed for the first ten minutes of meditation.

How wrong I was. As I closed my eyes and followed the guided instructions - I felt the benefits straight away - mental clarity, energised and refreshed!

I left the class with a smile and an aura of peace and quiet within my mind. When I got home, my families reaction to my presence confirmed how I felt about the practise - their faces were shocked like they had just met the old me.

From there on, I practised regularly and set out on exploring as many Meditation techniques as possible!
I started with meditation apps, finding meditation teachers online and reading up about other techniques and the experiential possibilities.

After building a solid practise and noticing the benefits in my daily life. I wanted to share the practise of meditation with all those suffering around me so I set myself the goal of becoming a teacher but not before exploring all the techniques on offer.

Since that first class in 2013, I’ve been to countless courses and retreats. I’ve sat in silence meditating for days and months at a time, meditating up to 15 hours a day. I’ve travelled to different countries to study and train with some of the most respected teachers in the world. I’ve explored ancient techniques of consciousness and studied advanced bodies of knowledge.

In 2019, after meditating for three and a half months at 15 hours a day - I became a fully qualified Vedic Meditation Teacher.

I’ve met countless people, from all walks of life, religion an ethnicities that practise meditation and reap the benefits everyday! Yet there is still a classic stereotype connected to meditation, similar to one I held when I first went to learn.

My journey now is about helping people realise that meditation isn’t just bald head and oranges robes, but an effortless life tool that anyone can benefit from and helping others move from a numbing lifestyle to a more subtle fulfilled one.

We now live in such a fast paced, social media influenced life, that I believe we can all benefit by simplifying it with Vedic Meditation.”
